Turkey Day Regatta

November 21, 2020

The Turkey Day Regatta is a yearly regatta held at the Houston Yacht Club .

We now own a trailer, so I got some experience with tying down my boat for interstate transport. This year I was in the RWB Fleet and there were nine boats.

In the first race I got 3rd place and there was a good, steady breeze for the whole race. It was also super cool that we were racing right next to the Houston ship channel and we all saw huge tankers heading out.

In the second race there was literally no wind, 0 MPH. So we were just floating around the course and I got 7th place. Then in the third race I got 5th and the wind really picked up. After the third race we sailed in and derigged our boats.

Usually the Club offers a Thanksgiving meal indoors for the Awards Ceremony but due to COVID there was no food served and the ceremony was outdoors. My mom ordered Domino’s Pizza for a couple of us. Then we had the Awards Ceremony where the winners of each fleet got a frozen turkey. I did not get a turkey because I was in 5th place, but my friend’s Hadley and Thomas went home with turkeys. Even though I didn’t get one of the turkeys it was very fun.
