Canyon Chaos Regatta

March 2022

This was not any regular Friday, I was going to my second out of town regatta. I was very excited because the place that I was staying at with my Dad was very cool because it was a massive shipping container that was furnished out into a space for living. Also it was a very highly rated regatta, and was liked by most of the sailors that participated in it.

I left school 1 hour early so that we could hit the road on the 3 hour long car trip there. Once we got there with all of our gear and trailer that my boat was on we unpacked and put the boat in its parking spot. Then we were of to the container. Once we got there we looked around, got our stuff out of the car and went to go eat. The place we ate dinner was not much to brag about so I will only tell you that it was a drive through and only served deep fried things. After this we went back to the container and went to sleep.

The first day of the regatta was a doozy, we woke up, made breakfast and then I went to rig my sail outside. Once I had completed the rigging of my sail we loaded up our gear and headed down to Lake Canyon Yacht Club. Once we got there we rigged my boat and I launched to go race. At this time it was about 10 in the morning and racing started in 30 minutes. The races were going well and there was a lot of wind so their was a lot of capsizing in the bottom half of the fleet. I was placing 5th to 7th on average out of 23 boats that were racing in our fleet of Red, White, and Blue. After the first day of racing I was feeling good and had a had a lot of fun.

When the second day of racing rolled around it was more or less very similar. There was less wind though by about 3 knots. By this time I was still placing 5th to 7th place and was happy with my performance. After the racing ended at about 2 pm and soon after we went to look at the race scores and I was extremely happy that I had placed 6th overall for my second out of town regatta. Then we packed up our belongings and left to go on the three hour drive back home to Houston.
