Surf perch fishing

June 2022

This summer we went to Manzanita with my grandparents. While we were there my uncle brought some fishing poles to go surf fishing . Our target fish were Red Tailed Surf Perch so that we could make fish tacos.

My uncle and I first went to survey the surf at low tide so that we could see where the troughs and holes were. In surf fishing you need to understand where the troughs are because it’s the water flowing through that area that stirs up bait and attracts fish. An interesting article on that is here.

We went out at 2 o’clock because that was 2 hours before high tide and that matters because that is when the fish typically bite. My uncle caught 7 total perch over 2 days and showed me how to filet them.
